CabGuide Course

Education is an area of great importance to the Company, which has for many years offered Hackney Carriage Drivers the opportunity to complete a Cab Guide Course.

At the end of the course, students complete both written and practical exams, to show that they have achieved the required standard as laid down by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers and the Museum of London Education Department. Hundreds of drivers have successfully completed the course to date.

On the course, students receive lectures from Guides who are qualified in adult education. Walks are presented by Blue Badge Guides and City of London Guides amongst others, and cover The City of London, Westminster, Southwark, Clerkenwell and Mayfair. These talks include the History of the Cab Trade and the roles and traditions of the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, both past and present.

During the course the candidates will have full use of the galleries at the Museum of Docklands. Further visits are made to other Galleries and Museums; these guided visits give a fascinating insight into the work carried out at these various locations. Upon completion of the course you will be a Qualified Taxi Guide, and will receive your certificate and guide badge (pictured left).

There is no requirement to be a member of the Company, but many students enjoy the course so much that this is their introduction to becoming a member.
